The only certain thing about the end of the grade school careers for the Class of 2020 is that it will be unconventional. To that point, the Perry School District has a few upcoming programs that are anything but ordinary to honor the graduating seniors.
Superintendent Clark Wicks says the high school administration has planned two special events this week, one of which will get an assist from Raccoon Valley Radio. “(On) May 21st, (we’ll host) a virtual Senior Awards Night, (at) 7 p.m., and that will be broadcast over the PHS Facebook page. Number two would be May 22nd, a student ‘Scoop the Loop’ (from) 7-8:30 p.m., and KDLS will be involved with that. I think there’ll be a playlist that when people are driving, they’ll be able to hear KDLS and that special music and information that they have. (That’s) along with I think a lot of signs (and) jerseys, trying to honor these students that have meant a lot to the Perry community.”
Wicks adds, the District is looking towards the end of June for commencement ceremonies, though a date hasn’t been made official. If that’s not possible, the administration has discussed the idea of a “Drive-In Movie Ceremony” in July, which would also utilize Raccoon Valley Radio’s airwaves.
