The Guthrie County Relay for Life chapter’s annual event has been postponed until the fall because of COVID-19 concerns, but in the meantime they’re honoring those that have been diagnosed with cancer while respecting social distancing.

National Cancer Survivors Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in June, and Guthrie County Relay for Life is celebrating the occasion with “Scoop the Loop for Hope” on Saturday, June 6th. “Scoop the Loop” and other vehicle cruise nights have grown popular during the state public health emergency, and RFL committee member Kim Durst shares how this event will collaborate with several communities, “This is going to be a chance for people to honor and remember their loved ones and be able to purchase a yard sign for $10 to put on the main drag either in Adair, Guthrie Center, Panora, or Stuart. So as people are scooping the loop in their communities they will see the names of the cancer survivors that we’re honoring that are still fighting the fight and remembering those that we’ve lost to cancer.”

Proceeds from the signs will go to the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research, and order forms must be turned in by May 31st to Guthrie County State Bank in Guthrie Center or Panora, Exchange State Bank in Adair, or Karl Chevrolet in Stuart.
