Jefferson residents looking to get rid of yard waste can do so next week.
The Free Spring Yard Waste Pickup will be from May 26th-28th, to be picked up along with your normal garbage. Items such as grass, leaves, clippings and small twigs must be placed in a 30 gallon biodegradable paper bag, no plastic bags will be accepted, and the blue garbage containers should not be used for yard waste. The biodegradable bags are available at several retailers in Jefferson.
Twigs and tree limbs under ten inches in diameter can be bundled together in arm loads. Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer says by doing this, it will help make the collection process go smoother.
“We tell everybody, if you can get your brush out by the curb, with the (cut) ends out and laid out, so it’s just not in a big pile. So they can just grab it and put it in a chipper is greatly appreciated.”
As a reminder no whole trees will be picked up. Yard waste stickers are not required for the month of May and during Yard Waste Pickup Week. Due to the Memorial Day holiday, garbage and yard waste will be delayed by one day.
