The Sierra Community Theater in Jefferson is seeking additional funds for a building maintenance project.
The non-profit movie theater received a $12,650 grant from the Greene County Community Foundation for the first phase of their street side facade project to replace six upper story windows. Manager Sarah Nicholson says this project is a long-time coming to help keep the building intact.
“The building hasn’t been updated since roughly the 1970s on the exterior, and we would like to see it put back together a little bit nicer. (It’s) Just building maintenance. Part of our mission statement is to preserve the building and we’re just trying to do that.”
This isn’t the first time the movie theater has received a community foundation grant. They received a grant to help complete the renovations to the current restrooms that are now Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complaint. However, Nicholson says due to COVID-19 forcing the delay in their Classic Movies Week, which is their annual fundraiser, they are still needing funds to do the window project.
Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 346 in Jefferson.
