The Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center is happy to be open to patrons again since its closure due to COVID-19, but visitors are asked to abide by their rules at this time.

The library has limited its hours to 2-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday. Patrons are asked to maximize their visits to 30 minutes, and items like puzzles, puppets, and games are not available for children’s use. Those 16 years and older are allowed to use their computers, but a 30 minute time frame will be enforced.

Library Director Pat Sleister shares how she feels having the library reopened for the third week, “Well, it’s kind of scary for one thing but we are so glad to be able to open up again because we know that there’s people out there that really depend on some of our services and we got you know, those people that want to file for unemployment and that kind of thing. And if you don’t have a computer, what are you going to do? So it’s just been our privilege to reopen and to try to keep everybody safe in the process.”

Sleister adds that no meetings will be held at the library for the time being, and public restrooms are closed. The staff is also offering curbside service for those who would like to stay in their vehicle. For more information on the library’s operations, visit here.
