Residents of Dallas County in need of food assistance but who have difficulty getting to the local food pantries have another option available to them.
The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Network has launched a delivery service for food insecure individuals throughout the Greater Des Moines area. If a person is unable to travel to a local pantry, DMARC will deliver the items to their door. The organization is asking that only those with health, transportation, or other mitigating circumstances to use the service, though it’s provided free of charge.
People can call the toll free number between 9 a.m. – noon Monday through Friday to request delivery. Once the order is placed, food will be delivered with a no-contact drop-off the following business day. Requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and delivery capacity will depend on the number of volunteers available. The service area includes Perry and Adel, as well as many of the rural communities. The number to call is 1-833-362-7220. For information on how to volunteer to deliver food, click the link below.
