Panorama’s class of 2020 won’t be receiving their diplomas as planned this Sunday, but the District has come up with another way to recognize their achievements in the meantime.
Panther families are welcome to drive around the Panorama athletic complex as the District lights up the fields for the senior class. Activities Director Erin Kirtley says senior parents Ginger Lindstrom and Angie Holloway drove the idea of celebrating the seniors with signs that display their name and picture to be placed on the football field for the public to see. As the senior class trip was cancelled, the class decided to use their remaining funds to ensure each one of them has a sign to display, and that they can take home afterwards.
Kirtley says the staff and parents wanted to host this event to let the seniors know that they’re not forgotten, “Honestly, part of this too is that some of these seniors, they don’t understand really quite what they’re missing out on at this point. You know I think we as adults can look back on our senior year and have all of these memories and know what that senior awards night looks like and the baccalaureate and just those last few days of being a senior and with your class.”
Seniors and their families can drive around the fields from 8-9 p.m. Sunday night and pick up their signs afterwards. Details on the postponed graduation and other end-of-year events are expected to be announced by the District on May 18th.
