Ever since COVID-19 made its way into Iowa, a Greene County Emergency Operations Center Committee has been operational.

The group involves several entities, including Greene County Public Health and Emergency Management Coordinator, Greene County Supervisors, the mayors in the county, Greene County Ambulance, Greene County Medical Center and law enforcement. Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf is one of the organizers of the EOC and she says they meet twice per week and discuss various items such as distributing personal protective equipment, creating a new Greene County Emergency Operations Committee Facebook page and identifying special needs or at-risk populations in the county.

“We still need to be sure that we have a plan in place. That if one or more of them would become ill with COVID(-19) or be exposed and need to go into isolation.”

Greene County Supervisor Chair John Muir is on the committee and says when they took over operations of public health two years ago, the Supervisors have worked well with public health and with Wolf. Muir expresses his gratitude for the job Wolf has done during these uncertain times.

“Now through this experience I’m so thankful that Becky’s in charge. I think the County can be proud. It’s like a lot of things, until you really have that experience of seeing what they’re going to do in a time of crisis you don’t fully appreciate it. But we’re lucky to have that group working with us.”
