Governor Kim Reynolds continued to slowly relax COVID-19 restrictions last week by opening campgrounds across the state.
Following the relaxed restrictions, Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says self-contained campgrounds are now open at all county parks. He notes that about ten units were booked last weekend at Spring Lake Park but he says there’s been more reservation activity.
“For the next weekend coming up, the (May) 15th and 16th that would be all 20 of our online reservation sites have been full for the last two weeks or so. I think we’ll see a lot of the old-fashioned first come, first served sites, I think we’ll see that busy next weekend too.”
Towers points out there are 120 campground sites at Spring Lake Park, but the other campsites for tent camping are to remain closed, as per the governor’s public health emergency proclamation. Additionally, the pit latrines are now open, but the showerhouse, cabins, restrooms, shelterhouse and playground equipment at all county parks are still closed. To make an online reservation for a campsite at Spring Lake Park, Towers says use the website mycountyparks.com and the other 100 sites are a self-reservation system when you arrive at the park.
