The Perry Pride Business Booster program offered by the City and Chamber of Commerce has been running for the last two weeks, and though the early returns have been positive, organizers say more can be done.

Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti says the promotion involves purchasing gift cards online to local businesses as a means of economic stimulus. Purchasers will be given an extra $10 for each $20 gift card they buy, and the full $30 is paid directly to the business. Pasutti feels it’s a win-win for everyone, as the public can stretch their dollar further and the businesses can receive immediate financial support. She adds, now that people are more familiar with the process, she’s hopeful participation will increase. “Definitely so far, so good. Because it’s a new program, there’s been kind of a learning curve as far as educating our purchasers (and) the businesses in how it’s all working. We have a very large capacity of gift cards that we can sell in terms of the funding that’s available. So we’re a little bit short on our target there, so (it’s) just a matter of encouraging people to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Pasutti says in the first two weeks they sold over 1,800 gift cards and were able to give more than $56,000 to the local businesses. She says the program will continue for as long as the $100,000 grant received from the City will allow.
