The Greene County Farmers Market is typically held Tuesday evenings from June through September. However, COVID-19 has caused issues with how this year’s market will function.
Organizer Chris Henning says the start of the season has been delayed indefinitely, due to the pandemic. She explains that there are several provisions in place for how farmers markets can function, including: controlled entrances and exits, strictly transactional market purchasing, non-food and crafts will not be sold, and having access to bathrooms and running water for sanitation purposes, among others.
Henning says their normal location for the market is the east side of the Greene County Courthouse, but due to the courthouse remaining closed to the public, alternative plans are being discussed in order to start in-person markets. She adds, vendors who have produce, plants and other food items can sell them on the Greene County Farmers Market Facebook page and some vendors will honor senior citizen coupons for farmers market purchases. Henning says there are possibilities of having a few Facebook Live events where vendors can sell their items on Tuesdays in June.
