Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has begun the process of reopening the state from the COVID-19 quarantine, including counties such as Dallas where the number of positive cases has continued to grow.

Many people around the state have agreed with the Governor’s decision, including District 19 State Representative Chris Hagenow, who feels their objective was achieved. “This entire quarantine started as a goal to flatten the curve and make sure that our healthcare system was not overwhelmed. That was the stated goal at the front end, and that was something we absolutely should have done. But now that we have clearly seen that we are not going to overwhelm our healthcare system, we have to get Iowa back to work.”

Hagenow adds, he hears from constituents that their livelihoods are at stake if the quarantine continues. Critics to the Governor’s decision to ease restrictions point out that the peak of the pandemic has only just arrived in Iowa, and by opening now she’s putting thousands of people at risk. With that in mind, Hagenow encourages people to continue isolating if they can, especially when they’re feeling sick.
