While its not how anybody drew it up, Panorama’s Kolby Shackelford will cap off his Panther career as a state champion.
Entering his senior golf season, Shackelford was sure to be the favorite to take home another individual state championship before the Covid-19 outbreak caused all spring sports to be cancelled. Nonetheless, Shackelford accomplished more in three seasons than most high school golfers could if they had ten years in high school. He is a two-time recipient of the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association’s Class 2A Player of The Year award. In 2018, Shackelford finished just one stroke away from the Class 2A crown at the state championships. The in 2019, he wouldn’t be denied in what would be his last state championship meet finishing three strokes ahead of the next closest golfer.
While it’s disappointing we won’t get to see Kolby compete for another gold, we applaud him for an outstanding career as a Panorama golfer.
