It can be difficult to find positives during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the City of Perry has had a welcome development as a result of their building closures.
The McCreary Community Building renovation project was originally expected to be completed by the beginning of November. However, since the facility has been closed since mid-March it’s allowed contractors with Ball Team Construction to work on the project uninhibited by rec center patrons. As a result, Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the timetable for completion has been moved up several months. “Previously, we were going to phase construction aspects to minimize disruptions and keep the building open and operating the best we could. This way, we’re anticipating an August 1st completion date to where hopefully we can fully reopen a totally remodeled McCreary Center. We’ll try and keep everybody up to date on that the best we can, and see how this whole thing progresses.”
Peterson adds, the new completion date is tentative, as the contractor has run into issues during construction related to the age of the building. The City Council recently approved three change orders that were a result of unexpected discoveries in the nearly 37-year-old facility.
