The cancellation of the spring high school sports season leaves not only athletes and coaches remorseful, but also the community organizations that fundraise at those sporting events.

The AC/GC Booster Club runs the concession stand for track and field events to raise funds for their ongoing efforts to enhance the two districts’ academic, social, and athletic programs. Secretary Julie Plowman says having no spring sports and a possible cancellation of the summer sports season creates uncertainty for the club’s budget next year, “We rely on our track season heavily for a big fundraiser so we aren’t going to be able to see that revenue this year. As with other schools, many of the concession stands that volunteer groups rely on, you’re not going to have that like you had in years’ past. So we haven’t had a chance to see how that will look moving forward.”

Some seniors were also planning to volunteer at the concession stand this spring for the eligibility to receive scholarships from the booster club, which Plowman says they still plan to award $6,000 to nine seniors, though they had to “round up” some seniors’ volunteer hours due to COVID-19 cancellations. In other recent projects, the club gave $4,800 to the high school basketball program to purchase a Noah shooting system, and pledged $50,000 for new weight room and fitness center equipment.
