If you haven’t started a garden yet, a raised garden bed might be the way to go.
Jeanne Myers is with the Jefferson Garden Club and she says there are several advantages to having a raised garden bed. Among the advantages are improving soil drainage, controlling the soil environment, helping individuals with limited range of motion, along with another key advantage for people living in a town.
“It’s a great resource for people with limited or small space. People in town that really want to grow vegetables for instance but don’t have the room to make an in ground garden, then do a raised garden structure, and then they’ll be able to use that to plant their vegetables.”
Myers says other advantages include the soil warms faster if it is raised off the ground and you can protect it better from frost and it will last longer into the fall.
