Though campgrounds in Iowa are reopened, Springbrook State Park staff notes that we’re not back to normal yet.
Park Ranger Rod Nelsen says he welcomed several campers Friday morning as all state park campgrounds are open on a first come, first served basis this weekend. Reservations are also now being accepted through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources system, which Nelson says will take effect Monday, “And those who do choose to come out and register to camp will not be allowed a few things: one of them is that they’re not allowed to have any visitors, and the campfires towards the evening are only to be occupied by those that are registered at that particular campsite so even if it’s a neighboring camper they’re not allowed to come over to visit.”
Nelson advises that all restrooms, shower buildings, pit latrines, playgrounds, shelters, cabins, and other facilities will remain closed until further notice. The dump station is reopened, so Nelson recommends campers properly empty their trailers before leaving. For other spots in Guthrie County, Conservation Director Brad Halterman says the Nations Bridge and Lenon Mill park campgrounds are still closed through May 15th.
