The COVID-19 concern level is running high among residents of Perry, and a new organization is stepping forward to ensure the community functions properly amidst all the uncertainty.
A special Perry coronavirus task force recently formed, co-chaired by Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson and Perry DMACC Director Eddie Diaz. Peterson says the members of the group range from business owners, school administrators, non-profit organization members, and representatives from Dallas County Hospital and the Dallas County Health Department. Peterson feels the task force is well-equipped to build lines of communication throughout the City and County, and that there already are several ideas in play for how the community can effectively respond to the COVID-19 threat. “The main goal of this task force is to organize everybody’s efforts in the community so that they’re coordinated. So that we don’t have multiple people trying to accomplish the same thing, and we’re communicating across all sectors. So we’ll get working on some of that stuff and I think this will be a great opportunity for us to all be on the same page and all be communicating effectively moving forward.”
The Dallas County Health Department says they were impressed by the initiative shown by the Perry task force. Public Information Officer and Health Navigator Ann Cochran says her department’s primary role in the group will be to provide technical and educational support, which includes information translated into several languages to help reach Perry’s diverse population.
