Many retail businesses in Dallas and the 22 counties most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Iowa are being allowed to reopen with certain restrictions today, but at least in Perry the anxious shoppers will have to wait a bit longer.

Perry Chamber of Commerce Director Lynsi Pasutti says the decision by Governor Kim Reynolds on Wednesday to lift mandated retail closures statewide was a surprise to most area merchants, and she says the majority of them are choosing to remain shut for the time being. Citing the continued growth of positive cases in Dallas County as the primary reason, Pasutti says the retailers don’t feel they can safely reopen just yet. “Most retail businesses are opting to continue staying closed at this time, and will be reopening and relaunching soon. I just want to remind everyone that while some restrictions are being lifted today and in the future, to continue to take their own precautions. Be patient with the process of reopening, and just be aware of the changes that are still coming. And so (I) just hope that everyone can stay safe out there and stay informed, and do their part to keep everyone safe.”

In the meantime, Pasutti encourages people to continue showing their support for Perry businesses by taking part in the Perry Pride Business Booster gift card program, and use the funds once the stores officially reopen.
