Every year, the Perry School District takes a day to honor the graduating seniors and recognize their plans after high school, with Senior Decision Day.

The celebration was done virtually for the Class of 2020, due to COVID-19. In a typical year, there’s an assembly where seniors go in front of the student body to reveal where they’re headed after graduation. This year the school instead posted a video on their social media featuring students who are extending their education. Many seniors will be attending nearby colleges and universities, such as Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa State University, Iowa Central Community College, and Grand View University. Others are headed much further, such as a student enrolling in Kansas University, another playing basketball at the University of Sioux Falls, and two heading to other countries.

There were also two United States Marine Corps recruits in Calvin Sass and Jason Zepeda, and five joining the Army National Guard, including Narale Cerna, Charley Guardado, Avery Miner, Amos Munoz, and Andrea Rivas. The District felt it was important to continue Senior Decision Day in spite of, and even because of the coronavirus closure, to ensure the Class of 2020 got the same chance to share their excitement as previous classes.
