One question on many people’s minds in the Perry community following the official school closure for the rest of the year: “What will become of the building trades class house project?”

The house, located in the 2100 block of Otley Avenue, was nearing completion and was expected to be wrapped up this month. However, since there hasn’t been classes since mid-March, construction has stalled. Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks emphasizes that the house will eventually be finished and sold, though the timeline is currently unknown. “It has been on a stand-still, but yet at the same time, it’s going to be completed one way or the other. It just depends on the date. Just like everything during this COVID-19 (pandemic), things are being pushed back and pushed back again. So we may start the (next) year with that (or) maybe we’ll be able to sell it as is, so we’ll just have to see. There’s a number of options out there, but we do want it to continue.”

Wicks adds, industrial technology instructor Chad Morman has offered to bring students in small numbers to the house during the summer to resume some work. In particular, he’s encouraging the graduating seniors to take part, since they otherwise won’t get to work any further on the project.
