With COVID-19 numbers swelling in Dallas County over the last week, the Perry School District put a temporary hold on their daily grab and go lunch program.

Superintendent Clark Wicks is happy to announce it will return starting next week, but he points out there will be extra precautions moving forward. “Everybody will be wearing a mask, everybody will be wearing gloves, and we’re going to be extremely careful. But yet at the same time we know the high demand that there is for people that need food, so we are going to get that back and going on Monday. So (we’re) happy to see that. At the same time, I know that the high school has offered and has given many meals for people from their food pantry. So that’s been a big plus though too, so people have still been stopping by (and) we have been giving them boxes of food out of the food pantry.”

Additionally, a local parent group has provided meals to kids this week, with help from community donations and food provided by the local grocery stores. The grab and go program runs from 10:30 a.m. – noon each weekday, and families can pick the meals up at the elementary or high school. There is a limit of one meal per student, and the student must be present to receive the food.
