The largest grant awarded this year by the Guthrie County Community Foundation was received by the Guthrie County Fair Board for their most significant capital project this year.

The Board received $20,000 to pay for the concrete portion of the new 4-H static exhibit building at the fairgrounds. Board President Tyler Carney says the first phase of the building estimated to cost $150,000 will begin construction this month. Carney states the current static building is beyond repair, and the new building will not only get to be enjoyed during the county fair, but year round by 4-H and youth clubs and other organizations, “The 4-H kids definitely pulled their fair share of this and raised $50,000 themselves and coupled with the annual fair fundraiser dinner and auction the Fair Board does in March and grant writing and some private donations we are all but at the $150,000 to make this thing happen and we can proceed with the building to construct that this year.”

The building will be located west of the Lions Club food and American Legion bingo stand, and the first phase will include the cement pad, shell structure, and electrical hookup. Carney mentions the Board is honored to receive the Foundation’s continued support.
