This has been a relatively ideal week for area farmers to continue planting across Iowa.
According to the weekly crop report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture, there was an average of five suitable days last week for field work. Statewide about 39-percent of corn and about nine-percent of soybeans were planted last week. However here in west central Iowa and specifically in Greene County, Landus Cooperative Field Agronomist Zach Minnihan says as of Wednesday, about 70-80-percent of corn and 40-50-percent of soybeans have been planted.
Minnihan talks about how the planting season has been overall.
“This has been a pretty nice planting season so far. I mean we’ve been dry (and) it’s almost turning into ‘We need a rain’ on some of this stuff that’s been in the ground for a couple of weeks. But yeah, it’s really been fairly nice planting and a spring operation season.”
Minnihan believes planting season will be wrapped up within the next couple of weeks.
