Left, Amy Davis. Right, retired VA Administrator Darcie Robson.
While COVID-19 has made day-to-day life more difficult for most, it’s actually benefited communications for some clients of the Guthrie County Veterans Affairs office.
Veterans Affairs is housed in the Guthrie County Courthouse, which closed to the public a few weeks after Amy Davis began in the position of VA Administrator and General Relief Director. Davis says it was unfortunate not getting to meet some clients for the first time in person, but using the phone as the primary means of communication led her to a realization, “When people are in need of help, it actually can be easier for some people to ask for help when they’re not eye to eye with you. And so some of the conversations that I’ve had and some of the topics that I have to talk about with people can be pretty personal. And I’ve been really pleased with the great conversations I’ve been able to have and provide my support and assistance to our community.”
Davis says some veterans and the public have been surprised by all the services her office provides, such as emergency assistance for the poor and needy in Guthrie County. For more information and to schedule an appointment with Davis, visit here.
