A contract was awarded for the high school weight room/fitness center addition by the Guthrie Center School Board Monday.

During the special meeting the Board awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, Sande Construction of Humboldt, who had a bid of $1,217,040. The contractor originally gave an approximately $1.5 million bid when the Board opened bids earlier this month, and Superintendent Dennis McClain says representatives of FRK Architects did some value engineering to find less expensive alternatives in the project specifications with the contractor to level that bid closer to their $1.2 million bond that’s coming from their Secure an Advanced Vision for Education funds. Next steps for the project include a pre-construction meeting on May 13th. McClain says the addition is expected to be completed in October.
