Now that school buildings are to remain closed for the rest of the year, the Greene County School District is making changes to its Grab and Go Lunch program.
Starting May 4th, meals will be served Mondays and Thursdays. Superintendent Tim Christensen says they have been serving meals five days per week for six weeks and the facilities and food service staff were not designed for the long term and so changes needed to be made to serve meals twice per week. The meals that are served on Mondays and Thursdays will include one hot entree and either a “take and bake” or a cold sandwich option for the other three days of the week.
Christensen notes breakfast food will continue to be served as well. He talks about whether or not there will be a transition to the traditional summer lunch program.
“Guidance that we’ve gotten from the state, essentially the program that we have in place would essentially end at the end of May and then we would transition into a traditional summer lunch program. So there will be a transition at some point between those two.”
Meals will be served from 11:30am-1pm at the middle school in Jefferson and 11:30am-12:30pm at the Grand Junction, Rippey and Scranton community centers. As a reminder, anyone 18 and younger, and who live in the Greene County School District may receive a free lunch.
