Governor Kim Reynolds’ new proclamation issued Monday is allowing libraries to reopen, but the Stuart Public Library is following guidelines to ensure it opens safely.

The proclamation states that libraries may reopen this Friday, but that it must limit the number of patrons present to 50 percent of its legal occupancy capacity. Stuart Library Director Lisa Sherman says no one wants to reopen the library more than her, but that she and her Board of Trustees are monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and are using some stipulations for when it’s appropriate to open their doors, “A sustained reduction in the new COVID-19 cases within the community for at least 14 days. Number two: the healthcare system has the capacity to withstand a moderate outbreak. Three: community members have access to efficient testing and public health officials are able to trace COVID-19 contacts, and four, the library has access to the necessary materials to maintain high hygiene levels. Number five: the library has the necessary staffing to run all of its core operations.”

In the meantime, Sherman encourages the public to visit the library’s website to find a variety of free online educational and entertainment resources. You can find more information here.
