Some local food pantries have been utilized by more people due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Greene County Action Resource Center Manager Shirley Haupert says they are continuing to serve the same amount of families at this time, but says that could change.
“But I’m fully expecting that when some of this stimulus stuff and the unemployment run out, we will see a spike in it. We did last year and our numbers just about doubled. We’re waiting and it’s going to happen, unfortunately.”
While the food pantry gears up for the potential increase in the number of clients, Haupert says they have received several donations from the community. Jefferson Telecom gave $10,000, Jefferson Fareway has an ongoing food drive where customers can purchase pre-packaged bags of groceries, along with area churches giving donations and some people have even donated their federal stimulus checks. Haupert appreciates everyone who has donated to the food pantry and adds donations can be mailed to them at 1006 North Vine Street.
