As the COVID-19 pandemic has kept families together at home for over a month, tensions can be running high for those at all ages.

ISU Extension Human Sciences Specialist Mackenzie DeJong shares what Iowans should remember when they are coming to a boiling point, “We are all at a high level of stress right now. We’re all going through some crazy things and our emotions are at a high level so just remember that if you’re getting upset at someone else they’re probably having a lot of the same stresses as you are. I know for me that has been something that has really leveled me, even with work situations where you start to get upset about something and go ‘Well, if I’m as overwhelmed as I am, I’m sure everyone is right there with me.’”

Another tactic DeJong shares is “Stop, breathe, talk.” She adds this and other tips that can be applied to most people are taught on Extension’s “The Science of Parenting” Facebook page.
