Instead of meeting in person as intended for their first charitable donation of 2020, the 10 Squared Men of Guthrie County are already collecting checks for their selected recipient.
As COVID-19 prevented the group from the usual method of having three members present on behalf of local non-profit organizations or groups in need of financial assistance and having the members vote for the recipient, Director Barry Monaghan researched what entities are being faced with a great need due to the pandemic. He then decided they would make a donation to the Guthrie County Hospital Foundation, which will be used for needed equipment beyond their budget. Monaghan shares the feedback he received from the group, “What I got was some response from some of the members initially who said, ‘What a great idea, I can’t think of a better place for this to go, I’m gonna give $150 this time and we’ll challenge other people to do the same.’ So I would say probably half of our people have sent 150 rather than 100.”
Monaghan mentions some members gave extra contributions to cover members who may not afford to make a donation at this time. The 10 Squared Men of Guthrie County’s next meeting is scheduled for July, and their goal this year is to reach 200 members.
