Tyson Fresh Meats in Perry is stepping up testing and preventative protocols against COVID-19.
Tyson Communications Manager Liz Croston says the company has started the process of testing its employees for the virus and operations at the Perry plant have been scaled back until testing is complete. She notes that the Perry employees have their temperatures checked when they arrive at the facility, along with mandating and providing face coverings. Croston says they’ve implemented social distancing measures by installing workstation dividers and provided additional space in the breakroom.
Croston points out they’ve relaxed the attendance policy in March to encourage employees to stay home when sick and educate them on COVID-19, including the importance of the Centers for Disease Control guidelines when not at work.
Earlier this month, Croston confirmed to Raccoon Valley Radio there were positive confirmed cases of the virus at the Perry plant, but would not disclose how many workers had it, citing privacy of its employees. However, Croston notes the plant production areas are sanitized daily and they even closed the plant for one day last week to do an additional deep clean of the facility.
