With this week being National Volunteer Week, it’s a time when volunteers are highlighted for the work they do and the support they give unselfishly.
Jeff Lamoureux, known as Jeff from Jefferson, was named the 2019 Volunteer of the Year by Jefferson Matters: Main Street. What started out as a concept to have someone be the spokesperson of JMMS, a committee thought of Lamoureux and he tells Raccoon Valley Radio he didn’t hesitate to volunteer.
“I really believe in Jefferson and what Jefferson Matters: Main Street was doing. So it was an easy organization to volunteer for. I’ve always kind of had that mindset of community service and giving back to your community. For a community to thrive, for a community to really go to that next level it depends on the citizens and those that are willing to volunteer and help out.”
Lamoureux is also the executive director of Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, so he knows the value volunteers provide, especially when it comes to fixing up existing homes or building new ones. Lamoureux urges everyone to volunteer in some capacity because he says, “If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.”
