In light of the uncertain timeline for the COVID-19 pandemic in Iowa, one popular summer activity has been cancelled.

The Adel Parks and Recreation Department announced this week that the youth baseball and softball leagues would not be held this year. The decision came after consideration by both the South Dallas Little League Board and City representatives. The groups decided to err on the side of caution, prioritizing the health and safety of the children and their families. For those who already registered and paid for the league, refunds are being processed but may take a few weeks. Parks and Rec Director Nick Schenck says they haven’t made a decision on Little Sluggers for kids ages 3-4, since that league starts later in the summer.

For Perry residents wondering about the fate of their baseball and softball leagues: at this point they’re still on for the summer, though start dates have been pushed back indefinitely.
