The Perry School Board came to agreements recently on salaries for teachers, staff, and administrators, and each group was given a raise.
Superintendent Clark Wicks says each of the pay increases was around 3%. The certified staff received an increase of 2.92%, the support staff got 3.14%, the special services group received 2.93%, and the administrator salaries were increased by 2.92%. The raises amount to $507,680.59 more than last year’s total salaries. Wicks adds, the negotiated pay scales include increases for next year as well, which he said should provide employees some peace of mind.
Given the at times terse nature of the negotiations last year, Wicks said it was refreshing to get them done without much controversy. “(It’s) good news for the staff at Perry, not only for this year, but then taking care of next year. And I’d have to say, great job on the negotiation teams for being very civil, very reasonable. And it’s the way that things need to be done when we negotiate. It was very smooth (and) we focused on what we needed to focus on. I think that we all had a hand in coming in with, I think, a very reasonable attitude, and it worked out just tremendously. So kudos to the negotiation teams, and we’re moving on.”
