As Governor Kim Reynolds recently announced that all Iowa schools will stay closed through the rest of the school year because of COVID-19, the Guthrie County school districts are continuing their voluntary learning plans to help prepare those students who return in the fall.

Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools Superintendent Dennis McClain has announced that the districts will continue with the Voluntary Education Enrichment Opportunities through May 22nd. Prom and graduation has been moved to June 27 and 28, with backup dates being July 18 and 19. There will not be a commencement speaker, with senior awards presented instead at the graduation.

Panorama Secondary Principal Thad Stanley announced that starting April 27th, staff will begin providing activities and materials to students that will focus on standards and competencies in their subject area for the remainder of the year. Students will have the opportunity to earn credit for some of their fourth term classes, though it is not mandatory. The district also plans to hold its senior night on June 17 and graduation on June 21, and a decision will be made by May 17th on whether they will postpone to their set July dates.

West Central Valley stated that they are keeping with their voluntary continuous learning plan, and the school board has recently approved May 30 as their rescheduled prom date. The Board also approved possible backup graduation dates for June 28 and July 26, though they haven’t decided yet if they will postpone from their original May 17th date.
