A Fort Dodge woman was recently sentenced in Greene County District Court on drug charges.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Leigha Welch pled guilty to a lesser charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for her second offense for possession of a controlled substance and a serious misdemeanor for possession of a prescription drug. She had her prison sentence suspended for the aggravated misdemeanor conviction and was placed on two years of probation.Welch was additionally ordered to serve 30 days in the Greene County Jail for the serious misdemeanor conviction. 

The charges stem from a traffic stop for speeding made by a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy on November 24th. A probable cause search of the vehicle was executed, where several drug items were found. Welch was also ordered to pay over $1,200 in surcharges, crime victim assistance reimbursement, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
