In order to properly serve the public while at the same time keeping their facility at low capacity, Dallas County Hospital Family Medicine Clinics are now offering virtual visits.
The program allows a patient to meet with their physician through a secure, HIPAA compliant video chat without having to leave the safety of their home. With everything surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, DCH wants to make sure people are able to get routine examinations, medication management, and follow-up visits, without putting themselves or those at the hospital at risk for contracting the virus. The virtual visits are also ideal for initial coronavirus screenings.
To utilize the service, patients will need a smart phone or tablet with a built-in camera, and internet access. The visits are covered by most health insurance companies, but people should check first. DCH Medical Director Dr. Eric Ash says they’re excited to offer the virtual visits, adding, “Right now, we are telling individuals to stay home if they are sick unless seeking medical care. This is another way we can provide care to patients from the comfort of their homes while staying safe in their homes unless further attention is needed.”
Ash points out that virtual visits should not be used for emergency situations, so if you’re in need of immediate care you should still call 9-1-1.
