The spring semester is not going as planned for the West Central Valley FFA chapter due to COVID-19, but the students can still be celebrated for their accomplishments.

Chapter members Kaila Findley, Sydney Neal, and Josie Sackett received a gold rating for their Program of Activities Career Development Event at the District Convention in early March, but social distancing guidelines forced the cancellation of the state convention that was originally set for this weekend. The girls share that it was heartbreaking to see their hard work not come to fruition, but as chapter officers they’re still proud of all the activities they held this year, including community service and activity nights, and programming with the elementary schools. Neal describes the admiration she felt for her teammates during the sub-district and district conventions, “So Kaila and Josie were the girls who were talking and I was just the person who clicked through the slideshows. So I really thought it was neat seeing those two girls really talk about the stuff they know very well and are passionate about and showing off our chapter to others.”

Other FFA activities have also been cancelled due to COVID-19, including their Back-to-School Night event for prospective members, and volunteer highway cleanup. The chapter is still holding their spring greenhouse sale, and the public can visit their Facebook page for further details.
