At the recent Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board meeting, there was a presentation on the District’s continuous voluntary learning plan during the coronavirus-related school closure.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says in particular the Board reviewed the changes that will need to be made regarding credits and grading if the closure is extended through May. Specifically, Dufoe says there’s a lot that must be decided when it comes to assessing the Class of 2020. “Of course, that’s the group of kids that we’re most concerned with with this long-duration closure as we move towards the graduation date. So we’ll continue to review that guidance, and be able to put forth a plan that we communicate out to our parents and high school students sometime next week. And again for our seniors, we’re going to be able to be really flexible; we’re going to be able to work with kids to make sure they can graduate on time.”

Dufoe adds, the lower grades at the high school will have options for their grading if school is closed the rest of the year. They would either take the grade they had at the time the closure started on March 13th, or they could do additional work and take a reassessment to change their grades. As for commencement ceremonies, Dufoe emphasizes the District will have some sort of observance for graduating seniors, though they’ll know more as the fate of the school year is revealed.
