The Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center school districts began implementing their continuous learning plan as required by the State for schools being closed through April 30th due to COVID-19.
The Districts sent a letter to parents last week informing them that they chose the Voluntary Educational Enrichment Opportunities option for K-12 students. They mentioned that students will not need to make up days lost, and if Governor Kim Reynolds chooses to close schools for the rest of the year, they will continue using this plan. Superintendent Dennis McClain explains how this virtual learning is being held, “A lot of the teachers, they’ve got office hours where students and/or parents can get a hold of them. A lot of them are also doing Zoom meetings with the students and saying you know ‘We’re going to be doing a Zoom meeting at this time,’ and inviting them all in to take part in those. You know they’ve got individual Google Classroom sites set up that they can access the resources that way.”
McClain adds that the Districts continue to offer free grab-and-go meals to students with some changes. The 10 meals each week are being distributed on just one day a week to reduce exposure, and staff are wearing masks during distribution as a means for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
