The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, Kelly Campbell with the U.S. Census Bureau addressed the Board. He said Greene County is currently above 50-percent response rate for the 2020 Census. He mentioned Jefferson has the highest percentage of respondents at 60-percent. Those who haven’t participated in the Census can still do so by going online to my2020census.gov, calling 844-330-2020, or responding to the mailed-in survey form.
Additionally, County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board during open forum. He said the crime rate in the County is down, but mental health and domestic abuse cases have seen an increase. He added, individuals are still going to jail and no inmate is being released due to COVID-19 concerns, unlike other counties.
The Board then proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and tabled a resolution for the multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan due to wanting further review from other entities. The Board also heard an update from Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer. He told the Board that an architect is working on plans for the former Air-Temp building, which is owned by the City and glass is ready to be installed on the former Pizza Ranch building. Bids will be opened on April 22nd and the City Council will consider awarding a contract for a four walking trail project at their April 28th meeting.
Finally, Supervisor Chair John Muir mentioned that the County was going to participate in Raccoon Valley Radio’s Greene County Cares promotion.
