Construction on the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center continues to progress, though like most other things work has been slowed due to concerns over COVID-19.
Sheriff Chad Leonard says the construction site can get crowded as crews try to wrap up the project, though he believes everyone is doing their best to maintain proper physical distancing. “Well, I’m not sure if it’s progressing as normal. I’m out there almost every day, and I’ve slowed down going out there too, because of the amount of people working out there. But it’s still moving forward; there’s still contractors out there (and) they’re still working. So I’m not sure what each individual contractor has instructed their employees to do in regards to the virus. I’m sure at the end of it, it probably is slowing this down, but they’re still out there working so it’s moving forward.”
According to Samuels Group President Sid Samuels, the first section of the facility has reached punch list items and should be fully completed within the next few weeks. The second portion is not far behind, as contractors are finishing up painting and other touches before going to the punch list. As has been the case throughout construction, the third section is the furthest behind, with various mechanical, electrical, and security systems still being installed. The new tentative date for completion is May 14th.
