An event that’s 150 years in the making will just have to wait another year in the City of Stuart.

Out of caution for its committee members, volunteers, and attendees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stuart Sesquicentennial Committee has announced its postponement of the festival. Marketing Head Tracy Mahlstadt says they’ll celebrate it as the Stuart Sesquicentennial 150+1 on June 18-20, 2021. Mahlstadt reminds residents that many projects are still underway in connection with the celebration, including the beautification of the town sports complex and Lawbaugh Park, and the historical book. If the Governor has lifted meeting restrictions by June, the committee plans to have their next meeting on June 2nd from 6-7:30 p.m at the Stuart Congregational Church.

If you are interested in volunteering for one of the festival committees you can contact the co-chairs Lisa Sherman and Cheryl Marks at 515-249-3808 or 515-480-0767. Those wanting to contribute to one of the beautification projects can drop off a donation at Rolling Hills Bank or mail to Stuart Chamber/150th, PO Box 425, Stuart, IA 50250.
