The wait proved to be worth it, as the Perry Elementary Staff Parade was held Monday afternoon to the joy of students around the City.
The event was initially scheduled for this past Friday, but was moved because of inclement weather. With much better weather on the rescheduled day, the result was a chance for the teachers, staff, and administrators at the school to greet students and their families while maintaining proper social distancing. Principal Ned Menke said the 75-minute route through Perry was designed to hit as many parts of town as possible, and he was pleased to see how many came outside to take part. Many of the families made signs to convey messages to the passing educators, and likewise the cars in the parade were decked out with messages of their own. The general theme was that everyone missed each other during the coronavirus-related closure of school.
Perry, like all other school districts in the state, is expected to be shut down through the end of April. To learn more about this and other ways the Perry Elementary teachers have been engaging with students during the hiatus in classes, click the link below to visit the school’s Facebook page.
