Today is known as “Census Day” and it’s a reminder for everyone to participate in what is required by the U.S. Constitution every ten years.

Greene County Development Corporation Executive Director Ken Paxton says the census is especially important for the county. He points out several projects the county has undergone in the last few years will hopefully show that Greene County’s population has started an upward trend.

“We’re hoping that everyone in our county will do whatever they can to be a part of the census, to make our population look as good as possible, (and) show growth. Once again that growth is an asset and a selling piece that we can use to attract more people. It’s kind of like a snowball going down a hill, if you’re already growing then you can show people that you are growing, (then) bring them on and grow even further.”

Paxton adds, when federal or state funding is available for local projects, they are typically allocated to areas that have population growth and opportunity. He says having an increased population based on the census is one of those areas that are considered.
