Greene County officials continue to discuss and prepare as COVID-19 cases increase across Iowa.

Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says they can accept donations of personal protective equipment (PPEs) at this time. She describes the kinds of items they can accept.

“It might be the N95s or personal air protective respirator type masks. It could be gloves (or) it could be impermeable gowns and things like that.”

The guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control to prevent the spread of the virus includes washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, using an alcohol-based sanitizer that contains 60-percent alcohol, avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth, avoid close contact with people who are sick, staying home when you are sick, covering coughs and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces. Greene County Medical Center Infection Prevention Nurse Heather Kinsey explains how often people should be cleaning surfaces.

“You should be doing that daily at home. And that’s going to be all of those highly touched areas including tables, door knobs, light switches, your toilets, your faucets, phones, cell phones, especially cell phones. Anything that you come in contact (with) frequently throughout the day you’re going to want to clean that daily.”
