All City of Perry buildings and offices have been closed to the public the last couple weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though work continues inside them.
In particular, the McCreary Community Building continues to see a lot of activity, as its renovation project has only picked up momentum while the facility has been closed. Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the contractors at Ball Team Construction have seized upon the opportunity the empty building has created, and have gotten a lot of work done. “Crews have been in there doing some demolition. Things are looking very different day by day, so that’s exciting to see that progress. That project is going along really great, (and) they’re (Ball Team) going to bring in some extra people and start working on some of the other projects in there that would be interfering with some of the flow of traffic in and out of the building. So (it’s) sort of (a) blessing in disguise and good timing for us to be moving forward with this project.”
To Peterson’s point, crews have shifted their focus from the theater conversion to the gymnasium renovation and lobby remodel due to the lack of foot traffic. The gym in particular has had the entire floor and drop ceiling removed.
