The first tornado warning of the year for the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area comes at the tail end of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

What was supposed to be the lowest risk factor for severe weather from the National Weather Service for Guthrie and Adair counties that quickly became a tornado warning Saturday afternoon. Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team provided live coverage of the warning as it was issued for south central Guthrie and northwestern Adair counties at 2:41pm. The tornado warning expired at 3pm.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf told Raccoon Valley Radio a weak, narrow tornado touched down five miles southeast of Fontanelle. He says the tornado caused severe damage to two machine sheds and minor damage as done to a home on a farmstead. No one was injured in the incident.

Five Raccoon Valley Radio staff and Weatherology meteorologists provided live coverage. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network provides live coverage any time there is severe weather in Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties.
