Though most Iowa schools are closed until April 13th, students in the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, Panorama, and West Central Valley school districts are still guaranteed 10 meals a week through their free meal programs.
These breakfast and lunch “grab-and-go” offerings are free to anyone 18 years and younger residing in the school districts, regardless of being a student. Families living in the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center school districts are asked to contact their respective district to request to receive the meals, which are available for pick up from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Guthrie Center Elementary and at the Methodist churches in Adair and Casey. Panorama meals are dropped off from 11:30-11:45 a.m. in the district’s five communities (Bagley: Community Center, Yale: Memorial Park (Next to Community Building), Linden: Post Office/Library on Main Street, Jamaica: Park next to ToJo’s, Panora: Library) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Panorama Superintendent Shawn Holloway encourages parents to email him with the number of kids they’d like to sign up, though it’s not required, “We encourage anyone that needs that, wants that, to stop at those locations. If that’s one child to pick up the family’s meals or a parent can pick up the family meals so it doesn’t have to be each child showing up to those locations.”
West Central Valley is also distributing free meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m.-noon at both of the elementary buildings, Menlo City Park, and Redfield Middle School. More information can be found here.
